This blog was an idea I had one day because I have often talked to friends and sometimes strangers about mental health. One common thread has been that they have been impacted personally in some manner by mental health. Either their own illness or family/friends with illness. Most of the time when people notice me talking about my depression and anxiety openly, they are appreciative of it.
I have to think this is because you don’t often come across people who will openly tell you about their depression. I never used to talk about it. I always tried to hide it, but sometimes I couldn’t hide it. In those times I would completely shut down and not talk to anyone; I didn’t want to be around people, I didn’t want to eat, I didn’t want to anything.
I’ve noticed in myself that the more I talk about it, the easier it is for me to handle those days. Sure, I won’t talk about whats bothering me in the moment, but sometime in the future I will talk about it without even thinking. So with this blog I was hoping to bring that to the internet. I can reach more people, I can involve more people. I can make sure there is a place to come to read stories, ramblings of people living with mental illness. People who otherwise might be keeping these things to themselves.
There is an option if you, or a friend wants to contribute a story to us, you can. We welcome it. There is an option to be anonymous if you want that. Because mental illness is a deeply personal thing to talk about. But it's also okay to talk about, so I want to make sure everyone knows that.
